In 1967 Bobbie Gentry releases the song Ode to Billy Joe, which is about a boy standing on the Tallahatchee Bridge. This film describes what the song is about and how it all came to be. Billy Joe is an 18 year old boy who is in love with Bobbie Lee. Her father is against the relationship because she is not yet 16. Because Billy Joe wants to get rid of his virginity as soon as possible, he decides to go to bed with a boy. A day later he regrets this so much that he wants to jump off a bridge.
