The sixteen-year-olds live in a favela of Salvador de Bahia, which is famous for its beautiful old town, exuberant carnival, predominantly black population, but also high crime rates. Sometimes João sells his body or robs someone in the local gay scene, but he tries to make money without acting like a desperado. When Vandinha becomes pregnant with her second child, he suddenly disappears.
