O Convento plot
It is about the American professor Michael Padovic (Malkovich) and his wife Hélène (Deneuve). Padovic is working on a book in which he wants to prove that Shakespeare was actually a Spaniard. He suspects that a number of crucial documents to substantiate his thesis are in the library of the remote Arrabida monastery. Padovic and his wife are received in the monastery by the strange administrator Baltar. Baltar is enchanted by the insane Hélène and he tries to seduce her. To distract the professor's attention, he has the young and beautiful Piedade assist him in the library.
