Notes on an Appearance plot
David sends a card from Milan to his roommate Todd, stating that Madeline has already settled there. Upon his return to the US, he visits his parents, receives a check, reunites with Todd in Brooklyn, and schedules job interviews. But then he disappears. Todd and Madeline search for him all over town, past literary events, exhibition openings and coffee shops. David has left behind an obscure collection of letters, postcards and notebooks.
