Berlin, 1943. After the murder of her husband in a concentration camp, Anna, a young Jewish woman, finds herself alone with her son Michael in a city destroyed by the Nazis. When their apartment is searched, they narrowly save their lives by escaping. With the help of their friend Lona, they travel under a false identity and find shelter with a Russian pianist who feels sorry for them. This is the beginning of a terrible odyssey through the entire area and will last more than two years. Thanks to the hospitality of some Germans, who risk their lives to help them, Anna and Michael are able to survive...
