Nichiren plot

Nichiren (born 1222) was a "fighting priest". He used words as weapons to establish the Lotus Sutra as the supreme law to oversee the many sects of Buddhism. Like Shinran, he consistently agitated against the conditions at the time and built his temple among the poorest of the poor. But in Nichiren - both the man and the movement - was a nascent nationalism, useful in times of natural disaster, political unrest and threats of Mongol invasion.
