Never the Twain Shall Meet plot
Tamea, whose mother was Polynesian and her father French, leaves the island where her father rules and joins him on a trading voyage to San Francisco. When they arrive at the port, the health officials discover that the father is a leper, and he jumps into the water and drowns. Tamea is taken to the home of Dan Pritchard, the junior partner of the firm through which her father traded. Their love slowly blossoms.
