Neigungsehe plot

Wilhelmine Buchholz does not agree with her daughter Betti's love. After all, she wants to marry the painter Holle against her mother's wishes. When Wilhelmine travels to Helgoland with Betti, to calm down a bit and bring some peace into their lives again, Holle travels after the two. Wilhelmina has to travel back earlier, because she also has some urgent matters to deal with at home and in the meantime Betti and Holle conclude a secret marriage. Unbeknownst to her mother of the marriage, Betti now tries to act like a married woman, while Wilhelmine's friends report to her what they see as immoral behavior of the two.
