Jan, estranged from himself and the world around him, is admitted to a clinic after a failed suicide attempt. However, the treatment does not bring the hoped-for progress and reunions with his family come to nothing. Meanwhile, Olga, the doctor's wife, pushes herself into Jan's clinic, while his wife Jana goes to bed with another man.
