Nash Chestnyy Khleb plot
An honest kolkhoz president struggles with the too rosy harvest results reported to the state by his son. The old chairman is retired for his noble actions. Outside of the main storyline, everyday village life on the collective farm unfolds through two major events: a funeral and a wedding. A funeral procession moves in the background. Shadows of people with bicycles. On the screen wheels and spokes, part of the whole. The black silhouettes of the workers on the kolkhoz look like ghosts. The funeral of the old woman, played by the young Muratova herself, is connected with the marriage of the young heroes. A crowd dances frantically. A long song sounds. An old man leaves with his wife for another village.
