Riitta and Anja are sisters. They live with their grandmother in a large family home. They love the same man, the treasurer Jyri Mara. Riitta marries Jyri. Anja is disappointed and leaves for Helsinki. The couple loses their child and Jyri considers his wife liable. After an accident, Anja returns to her sister to take care of her, but Riitta becomes jealous and angry.
