Murder in Portland plot

A young man, son of a Baptist church pastor and homosexual, has not spoken for years due to trauma. As a child he witnessed a murder. At one point he is kicked out of the house by his abusive father. He's going to Olympia, Washington State. There he meets a young shopkeeper, who takes him in.
