Mandarin Wu received a strict upbringing from his father, according to the ancient Chinese tradition. Now he has a cute daughter of his own named Nang Ping. She will marry a man her father chooses and whom she does not even know herself. However, she falls in love with Basil Gregory, an Englishman who is visiting China. He tells her that he must return to his homeland to his family, but she surprises him when she tells him that she is expecting him. Wu discovers what happened and reacts according to the cruel old Chinese laws.
