Dedicated FBI agent McKenzie "Max" De Ridder has just lost her mother. In the wake of grief, McKenzie's behavior has become erratic and she is soon suspended. She flees to a town she used to visit with her deceased mother. Shortly after arriving in town, McKenzie meets Freddie, a young man with special needs who suffers from Fanconi anemia (a rare condition with low life expectancy).
