Min Divot (Marie Dressler) runs a harbor side inn and has a relationship with Bill (Wallace Beery), the captain of a fishing boat. Together they are guardians of Nancy Smith (Dorothy Jordan), a young girl whose mother abandoned her. When Nancy has grown a bit older, she is taken out of the house by the children's police. Min and Bill scrape together enough money to get Nancy back, but later put her in boarding school, because Min doesn't think the inn and harbor are the right place for the growing girl. There she meets a wealthy young man (Donald Dillaway) and falls in love with him. The trouble begins, however, when Belle, Nancy's missing mother, suddenly reappears.
