Melvin and Howard plot
"Poor Melvin. All he wanted was to be Milkman of the Month. Instead, he lost his job, his truck, and his wife. Then Howard Hughes left him $156,000,000."
Melvin (Paul Le Mat) is a nice and cheerful boy, but in life a real loser. He is always unlucky, cannot hold a job for long and is far from practical. He has a fierce, on-again, off-again relationship with his childhood sweetheart and wife Lynda. Then he meets the eccentric multimillionaire Howard Hughes (Jason Robards), who has crashed into the desert with his motorcycle. Melvin offers him a ride to Las Vegas.

Good film in which a man with little luck helps a very rich man without knowing that he is very rich. The film mainly focuses on the man's life and that is of course slightly less interesting than the eccentric Howard Hughes (the filthy rich man). Moreover, it is told somewhat fragmentarily. Excellent acting, a beautiful portrayal of the times and an excellent last part.

A somewhat outdated film that fits perfectly into the American Dream. The subject is still interesting, it is not difficult that a film was made about it. It earned an Oscar for best screenplay and the beautiful Mary Steenburgen. Lead actor Paul Le Mat is not really charismatic and he seems more suited to television than film. The whole thing flows along at a leisurely pace. But it never really makes an impression. A film from its time that would be a comedy on Netflix in a new setting.
