Mei You Hang Biao De He Liu plot

An intense and penetrating story about three tough go-getters who go down the river on a raft in the early 1970s, past villages gripped by political violence. The boss on board, Laowu, is a tough survivor, whose good nature contradicts the depth of the grief he feels at having to give up his loved one to save her from persecution. Also the macho behavior of fellow crew member Shi Gu hides his despair at the forced divorce from his girlfriend, whom a corrupt official now wants to marry. The third member, Zhao Liang, is laconic, but afraid of offending the radicals on the mainland. But the outside world manifests in unpredictable ways, visited when they are visited by the past they thought they had left behind.
