Medal for the General plot

The old General Victor Church is a veteran of the First World War and due to his age he is considered incapable of taking an active part in the action of the now onset of the Second World War. Feeling superfluous, he goes to the countryside where he thinks about suicide. Then small evacuated Londoners are billeted with him and they ensure that he regains interest in daily life.
