Mary, a beautiful adolescent, lives in Nazareth. Her parents hope that their daughter will marry a rich merchant, but the girl refuses. She chooses to be engaged to Joseph, a modest thirty-year-old carpenter, who is quietly in love with her, but does not dare to tell her.
