Manhandled plot
Tessie McGuire is a shop girl at Macy's who accidentally catches the shop owner's attention and is invited to a fancy party. At the party, she does a great impersonation of a Russian duchess, whereupon the owner of an expensive department store hires her to attract customers. As she moves into the chic circles of New York, she becomes increasingly estranged from her boyfriend, a mechanic with big ambitions.
