Mama plot

A young mother, abandoned by her husband, has to raise a mentally handicapped son on her own. Liang Dan clings to the idea that thirteen-year-old Dong Dong can heal. The child suffered brain damage as a result of an accident during an epileptic seizure at the age of six. She makes many fruitless attempts to awaken Dong Dong from his 'sleep'. The film also deals with the general situation of mentally handicapped children in China and to emphasize this, the makers opted for a mixture of feature film and documentary.
