Maata Meren Alla plot
Adopted from Africa, Ida is now almost thirty and still lives with her adoptive mother Kati in the Finnish countryside. Trained as a seamstress, Ida wants to stand on her own two feet, but her emancipated mother gives her too little space to do so. Kati even wants to get Ida a job. Ida is encouraged by her boyfriend Ville to break away from home. To prove to her mother that she is independent and because she wants to be independent, Ida leaves for Berlin in Germany, expecting to find work and start a new life there. Meanwhile, Kati is told that Ida is seriously ill.
