Ludwig Ganghofer: Der Edelweißkönig plot
The young farmer's daughter Hanni leaves for Munich to be closer to her lover, Count Luitpold. There Luitpold's mother does not make it easy for her and she tries to prevent any bond between Luitpold and Hanni. When Hanni discovers she is pregnant, she kills herself. She writes a farewell letter to her brother Ferdl. He decides to get a story from the count in Munich. However, he knows nothing about the suicide or the pregnancy. After a struggle, Luitpold falls hard to the ground and does not move anymore. Thinking he killed Luitpold, Ferdl flees to the mountains. What he does not know, however, is that Luitpold survived the fall.
