Les Hommes Veulent Vivre plot

Charding, a nuclear physicist is designing some of the most catastrophic nuclear weapons mankind has ever known that could backfire worldwide. He is so completely absorbed by his work that - only when his son has leukemia - he looks back at his family. It is too late to do anything for the boy and he dies. Disgusted with himself, Charding gives up his job and returns to France. But he is pursued by his colleague, Rossi, who is only interested in the money the project can generate and who wants to continue his dangerous work...
