The horror offering on Netflix Netherlands is both in quality and quantity far below par, so good hope for this French-language Canadian horror that (at least for now) has a reasonable score on the IMDB. The first 5 minutes are still reasonably promising but soon ..... never mind! Suppose Canadians do a kind of "The Walking Dead". It all looks a bit less amateurish than what we often see in the direct-to-video horror genre. But pacing, camera work, FX are at best on old-fashioned TV movie level. Charm factor: 0.

Reasonable tree-zombie horror that is calm in all respects: pace, dialogues, camerawork, music (I think there is no soundtrack, only score). The only restless are the zombies, but they are not really scary and unfortunately it is not exciting either, except for a few moments.

Quite entertaining to follow all with appealing, everyday characters and a few nice shots. Typically a film of which you don't know the title after a while ('yes that one in the forest with French speaking people but otherwise..)'.

Slightly better zombie movie.

You don't have to poke me for an average zombie movie anymore, but I wanted to give this French-Canadian variant a chance. I was relatively rewarded for that. The sad thing is that it is still a fairly typical zombie movie.

The first hour you see a group of people coming together, then they fall away one by one. Little else is explained, but anyone who has seen more than a handful of zombie movies can fill it in for themselves by now. There really is no need to sacrifice extra playing time for that. In terms of progression and events, it is unfortunately a bit boring.

In terms of direction, however, it is interesting. Not so much the visual finish, often it looks rather cheap, but in terms of pacing and editing it looks special. Often some strange shots at moments when you don't expect it. The soundtrack certainly contributes as well. Cool and subdued, but very atmospheric.

The best part was the somewhat unusual, sometimes very dry humor. A bit surprising in a film like this, but it still helps to give some extra face. Not a bad result, Aubert himself is convincing, but his film is a bit on the bland side. Next time something more original than a standard zombie story please.

3.0*
