Le Retour d'Afrique plot
A young couple in Geneva wants to start a new life by emigrating to Algeria. Just before departure, a friend there, who promised them work, telegraphs to postpone the trip and then sends a letter informing him that he is coming back to Switzerland himself. To keep up appearances to the outside world that they have trumped with adventure, they go into hiding in an empty apartment. In isolation they learn to put their existence into relative terms and thereby strengthened to start over.
