At the age of fourteen, the Jew Jean-Marie Lustiger converted to Catholicism. As he struggles to come to terms with his mother's death during her deportation, he finds himself at odds with his father, who disapproves of his decision to become a Catholic priest. He climbs the ladder very quickly within the Roman Catholic Church thanks to his friendship with John Paul II. In 1985, he is asked to soothe the spirits between Polish Catholics and Jews when a Carmelite monastery is established within the walls of Auschwitz...
