A young schoolteacher begins his first day of class in the prison of the French city of Nancy when he meets a woman with whom he falls madly in love. The beginning of this love goes hand in hand with his discovery of the prison environment. Soon he is confronted with heartbreaking lives to which he tries to contribute benevolent compassion.
