Laughter in the Dark plot
"Vladimir Nabokov's tale of suspense and cruelty"
Sir Edward More, a wealthy middle-aged art dealer, falls completely under the spell of a cinema clerk and leaves his wife and children alone. In a car accident he becomes blind due to the girl's fault and is now completely dependent on her. She cheats on him with a young con man who is constantly present in the villa where they have retired. Slowly Sir More becomes aware of the invisible presence.
