La Rizière plot

Twelve-year-old A Qiu lives in a mountain village in southern China. She hopes one day to become a writer and that she can see more of the world as a result. However, life is tough for the Dong people of Guangxi Autonomous Province. A Qui's parents work in the city and her grandparents take care of her and her little brother. They go to school and afterwards help with the work on the rice field. Everything changes when Grandma dies.
