Joan is a doctor. She feels responsible for the death of a patient and her baby, who was murdered by the abusive husband. She doesn't know what to do. She leaves Montreal and drives into the night. In Aube, she stops at the Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré sanctuary. She wants to throw herself into the river, but a young man praying for his dying grandmother stops her?
