In La Maison de la Memoire, a grown man looks back on his poverty-stricken childhood in the North African countryside. Through the eyes of the child (Karim), a wonderful world unfolds that begins in his native lands - a ruined village where the local Muslims and Jews make desperate efforts to keep their dilapidated housing afloat - and threatens to end in the capital.
