La Lettre plot
La Lettre is a film adaptation of Madame de La Fayette's La Princesse de Clèves, the first psychological novel in French literature (1672). This story focuses on the impossible, but at the same time inescapable love between Princess de Clèves and the Prince of Nemours. A young, attractive woman is courted by the passionate François de Guise, who is found unsuitable for her. She settles with Jacques de Clèves, a renowned middle-aged doctor, whom she marries. Shortly after her marriage, she meets Abrunhosa, a pop singer (Pedro Abrunhosa, who plays himself), and a latent passion erupts within her. She seeks advice from an old friend who has since become a nun.
