La Fille du Diable plot
After looting a bank, the infamous bandit Saget flees from the police. He is injured but is picked up by a drunk driver. The man is a tire salesman who returned from America after 25 years of exile with a large amount of money. Before arriving home he has a fatal accident with the car and dies. Saget takes his money and his papers and throws his body into the river. In a clinic, Saget has his gunshot wound treated by an old doctor and then decides to take on a new identity, that of the dead man. He manages to shake off all possible suspicions. Only one person seems to notice and develops a blind hatred for him: Isabelle, a girl suffering from tuberculosis and whose father was formerly accused of swindling by the villagers.
