L'Île de la Demoiselle plot

1542, the year of Jacques Cartier's second expedition to Canada. Young Marguerite de la Rocque, pregnant by a man other than her future husband, the expedition's commander, is abandoned on a deserted island off the coast of Newfoundland, along with the man who raped her and her maid. She remains there for two years, surviving hunger, cold, despair, and madness.
