Izabelė and Liudas, a middle-class couple, live in a village with their son Gailius, who suffers from epilepsy. One day, Izabelė persuades Liudas to adopt the stubborn six-year-old Ilya from an orphanage. With the arrival of this newcomer, family life changes drastically for them.
