Johannes Kepler plot
The famous astronomer and mathematician Johannes Kepler works as a university lecturer in Linz. In 1620 he receives the news that his mother was accused of witchcraft in Württemberg. After an argument with a former girlfriend, she is falsely accused and extradited to the government. Kepler tries in vain to convince the prosecutor otherwise. However, it is the time of the Thirty Years' War. The witch hunters take advantage of the Protestant defeat at the Battle of Prague to further fuel the hostile mood in the country. Finally, with the help of a college friend who has since joined the Jesuit Order, Kepler manages to save his mother from being burned at the stake.
