Dance master Mangal Maharaj wants his son Girdhar, an excellent dancer, to participate in the once every ten years Nateshwar Utsav dance competition, win it and be crowned Bharat Natraj. First Girhard is allowed to do a solo dance number, but after that he is also obliged to dance the Shiv-Parvati Tandav with a female partner. Mangal Maharaj first wants Roopkala to be this partner, but this ends in disappointment. With only a year to go before the dance competition, Mangal is able to recruit the talented dancer and singer, Neeladevi. He subjects her to rigorous training and he is very pleased with her performance. But then he discovers that Girdhar and Neeladevi have fallen in love with each other.
