"Why did he have to marry someone like you?"
Jim Sterling, a war veteran wounded in the Korean War, returns to California with his Japanese wife Tae Shimizu. Jim met Tae in a Japanese hospital where she worked as a nurse. Back in the United States, Jim and Tae face racism and bigotry from their neighbors, especially Jim's sister-in-law Fran Sterling.
