Italiani plot
Palermo, mid-August 1960: a train, crammed with people, leaves the station on its way to Milan. Every year about fifty thousand Italians leave the regions around Calabria and Sicily to try their luck in cities of the industrial North. Few of them manage to overcome their poverty. Most end up in the monotony of the band work. The Salemis family is on the train: the parents, nine-year-old Nino and his seventeen-year-old sister Agata. During the train journey they meet two boys who immediately go to war for the favors of the young girl.
