Intohimon Vallassa plot
Aino is the daughter of a wealthy farmer who owns the Ylitalo estate. She is destined to marry Paavo, the son of the great forester from the village. During the harvest festivals, when the felled trees are transported across the river throughout the village, Aino meets Olavi, a laborer who has worked as a woodcutter. Olavi chooses not to travel again with the workers who are going to cut wood, but he goes to work with the blacksmith in the village to be closer to Aino who helps bring in the hay. Aino's father is not pleased with Olavi's interest and sends him away, because the family honor is more important than the happiness of his daughter. The marriage between Aino and Paavo is then hastily concluded, which generates the necessary gossip in the village. Olavi leaves when Aino indicates that he is no longer interested in him. When Aino and Paavo have a son, Aino takes charge of the family farm, which she runs with a firm hand. When Olavi returns a few years later, he is a clumsy, rude fellow, but Aino immediately falls for him again, which infuriates the often drunk Paavo and makes him want revenge.
