Into the Fire plot

Walter Harwig is a New York City police officer who cannot cope with the death of his sister. When he was a little boy, he saw her drown. Stiff with fear, he was unable to save her. Every year on her birthday, he throws himself into the sea as atonement for his youthful negligence. When one day near New York a passenger plane crashes into the sea, he is part of the rescue team. During the rescue, he is paralyzed with shock when he sees the remains of Sabrina Hampton, who resembles his sister like two drops of water. When he meets her twin sister, he loses himself even more in old guilt.
