In the Blink of an Eye plot

"All we share, and all we experience, echoes across time."

Over thousands of years, three storylines overlap. A family of cavemen is displaced and struggles to survive. In the present, driven anthropologist Claire studies prehistoric human remains. Meanwhile, she is in a relationship with fellow student Greg. Two centuries later, a spaceship is en route to a distant planet with astronaut Coakley on board. The oxygen-producing plants on the ship are suddenly affected by a disease.

A thoughtful science fiction film, quietly constructed and intelligently executed. Three storylines overlap over thousands of years. The introduction of the characters takes a bit too long, and there's a lack of suspense and spectacle, but ultimately the script is well-crafted, though the film clearly relies on the resolution. Director Andrew Stanton certainly made an improvement over his previous science fiction film, the blunder John Carter.

A decent film set in three different time periods (the distant past, the present, and the future). A rather ambitious film that tries to tell a bit too much. It also feels a bit disjointed at times. Towards the end, the three storylines come together somewhat, and this is the best part. Beautiful music by Thomas Newman.

The story of a Neanderthal family is juxtaposed with that of a contemporary scientist [Rashida Jones] conducting DNA research on the remains of a Neanderthal, and of a space traveler [Kate McKinnon] in 2450 whose aging process has been slowed down so she can survive an expedition to a habitable planet. Her only companion is the computer Rosco [Rhona Rees]. McKinnon shows that she can handle serious roles as well, but the hackneyed structure and equally clichéd existential questions generate little interest or wonder. Jones's romantic entanglements with Daveed Diggs (as her colleague) are not particularly interesting in any case.
