Im Kreis der Iris plot
A doctor (Philippe Léotard) from Sibiu in Romania has openly stated that many lung diseases are caused by air pollution and that the government should do something about it. As a thank you, the secret state police, the Securitate, beats him up. The injuries just won't heal. By accident, he treats the son of a high-ranking person, whom he saves his life. He therefore receives a visa to have his injuries treated in Austria. Wife and child must of course stay behind. He arrives in a transit camp for refugees, where his compatriots are staring at him because of the visa. He starts a relationship with the Hungarian teacher Marikka (Marthe Keller) and manages to get a job as a nurse. Later his wife and child are allowed to come, but they all turn out to be estranged from each other.
