Seemingly a trifle to showcase the very young and stunning Ornella Muti, but it is in fact a very interesting film with a clear message. What is it about? 15-year-old Lisa (Muti) is fed up with the micromanagement of her loving but bossy father, runs away from home, and ends up in a hippie commune. It is the early seventies, after all. There, she falls madly in love with the handsome Robert, and they decide to run away together. They set sail in a small boat, are shipwrecked, and end up on an uninhabited island. There, they experience a 'Blue Lagoon'-style romance, and we get to see Ornella's beautiful breasts and divine backside.
But that is actually just a side issue. The girl's father, a wealthy industrialist, manages to convince the police and the justice system that his daughter has been kidnapped by a dangerous maniac. Then half the Italian army and navy swing into action to track down the pair. Talk about corruption. But as we know, those in power primarily serve the rich. Especially in the Italy of the 1970s. First, the hippie commune is beaten up and arrested, and then the island is 'occupied' by an overwhelming force of soldiers; you won't believe your eyes.
The 'press' has also caught wind of this affair, and the paparazzi track down the fleeing boy by helicopter, primarily to take sleazy pictures of the pair, and they simply continue doing so even after the couple is brought ashore. The girl is handed over to her father, and things end badly for the boy. The film is euphemistically titled 'Summer Affair' in English and just as euphemistically in Italian: 'Sun on the Skin'. But director Giorgio Stegani shows in minute detail what things were like in Italy during those years. Not a nice country. And perhaps still not today. A film that gets under your skin.
