Il Ricatto di un Padre plot

Mario Guarnieri, an industrialist, is in financial difficulties but a heart attack ends that and he leaves the firm Arlandi & Serpieri in great debt. His daughter, Silvana, in love and engaged to Paolo, a young engineer, is about to marry Serpieri to protect her father's business. Her mother, Laura, is against the marriage and decides to discuss the matter with Arlandi, Serpieri's partner. Arlandi admits he caused Guarnieri's bankruptcy himself because he took his wife from him. However, he now promises to do his best to prevent Silvana's marriage.
