A young writer is caught between his mother, a horrible actress, and the knowledge that as a playwright he has only mediocre talent and almost no character. To make matters worse, the young man loses his mistress at the hands of his stepfather, also a novelist. Because of this, his self-esteem is so destroyed that he commits suicide.
