Il Canto della Vita plot

During the German occupation, the son of a rich man hides in an underground room, where he regularly receives help from a reliable maidservant. But at some point he abuses her. When the war is over, he abandons the girl and marries an aristocratic lady. The pregnant girl quits her job to raise her child in an aunt's house. However, the lady soon dies childless and the man's father, who wishes an heir for the family's possessions, learns that he has an illegitimate grandson. He tells his son to rectify his crime and marry the girl.
