Budapest, 1910. Nine-year-old Ernö (Gáspár Mesés) is a member of a boy gang and when he befriends the gruff hermit Janó (Mario Adorf), the children are allowed to set up their 'headquarters' on the man's property. But in the meantime there are personal problems: Ernö's parents are divorced and a boyfriend's father is an alcoholic.
