Harriet Boyd is a model who has many jobs at a fashion company on Seventh Avenue. However, she knows she won't be a model forever, so she tries to fulfill her dreams of becoming a fashion designer. Harriet knows it takes hard work to succeed in her current job, but she really doesn't stand a chance, especially against the ruthless clothing industry tycoon and salesman Teddy Sherman and her successful producer Sam Cooper. She therefore starts her own clothing company and is very successful, so that she is again confronted with Sherman and Cooper, who now see Harriet as competition. Meanwhile, Harriet has also fallen in love with Cooper and that doesn't make things any easier.
